Carbon Capture and Sequestration or Storage (CCS) is a vital part of the solution to addressing global climate change. It is the process of dramatically reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from power generation and returning it underground into formations that have naturally trapped elements for millions of years.

Experts discuss how Carbon Capture Storage works

Historically the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere has been inevitable when power is generated from fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas.

Now, power plants can be designed with processes that separate carbon dioxide so that it is not released into the atmosphere. The CO2 can then be placed in underground geological formations that naturally trap or sequester it permanently.
